Teleost retinae and hearing structures

For the animal the retina is a sensor-array and imaging-computer to open the window to the photic environment - for the comparative morphologist it is a complex of characters, that tells us stories about functional aspects, ecology, diversity and evolution of alien visual senses. Currently we study several aspects of the functional eye/retina-morphology of anchovies, eels and flatfishes.

Together with Dr. Tanja Schulz-Mirbach and scientists from the Tomcat beamline at the PSI in Villigen (Switzerland), we are investigating the biomechanics of hearing in bony fish (comparative study on selected representatives of the Cypriniformes and Siluriformes).
